Abu Dhabi - Egypt Today

Abu Dhabi Police have recovered a whopping amount of Dh99,000 of scam money stolen from a resident in the emirate.

The police also warned residents to be aware of fraudsters and contacting them via text messages or phone calls, or sending fake bank statements, which end up trapping the receiver.

Brigadier Tariq Khalfan Al Ghool, deputy director of Criminal Investigation Department at Abu Dhabi Police, who supervised the investigation, said that residents have been subjected to phone scams, and this victim was contacted by the fraudster, who claimed he has won a prize of one million dirhams in cash.

"He then persuaded the victim to disclose his credit card details, pin code and personal information."

Luckily for the victim, the police, who coordinated with the authorities concerned, were able to retrieve the stolen amount.

Brigadier Al Ghool warned the public about what to do when they receive scams via telephone or text messages.

He urged residents to not respond to, or disclose any private information to callers, whether the calls are being made from the UAE or from abroad.
