Prime Minister Sherif Ismail chaired on Sunday a meeting on prerequisites to import grain from abroad.
Attending the meeting were the ministers of agriculture, housing and supply, Cabinet Spokesman Hossam Qawish said.
The meeting mainly tackled measures that should be taken before importing wheat, corn and soybeans from abroad, he added.
This move comes as part of efforts exerted by the Egyptian government to provide basic commodities for citizens at affordable prices, Ismail said.
Any imported commodities should be compatible to Egyptian and world standards, he stressed.
Another meeting will be held next week to finally decide on such prerequisites.
