Kuwait's National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim has reiterated "deep-rooted historic" relations with Bahrain.
Al-Ghanim, in a statement to reporters after a meeting with Bahraini Speaker Ahmed Al-Mulla, said Kuwait and Bahrain were small in size but "characterized by openness." The Kuwaiti people, he added, would never forget the "heroic and brotherly" support of the Bahraini people during the 1990-91 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
Al-Ghanim said they discussed a variety of issues of mutual interest, adding that parliamentary diplomacy supported the foreign policies of governments, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Asked about Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's recent visit to Kuwait, Al-Ghanim said the Amir HH Shaikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah "is leading talks with the Iranian president on behalf of all GCC leaders." Al-Ghanim hoped these talks "produce positive results." Al-Mulla said they reaffirmed importance of unity in the face of terrorism, as well as rejected foreign interference in the affairs of Kuwait and Bahrain
He said Kuwait has a long history in restoring international peace and security, citing relevant contributions of the Amir of Kuwait HH Shaikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, KUNA reported.
