A number of Egyptian universities signed ten partnership agreements with their British counterparts to boost cooperation in scientific research in medicine, pharmacy and dental medicine.

The deals, signed at the residence of Egyptian Ambassador here Naser Kamel, come as part of activating a framework agreement for cooperation in the higher education and scientific research that was signed between the two countries during the latest visit of Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit to London.

The agreements were signed between the Cairo, Alexandria and New Giza universities and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport on one part and King's College, South Bank University, U C L, London Metropolitan University, Staffordshire University, Brunel University and University of Sussex on the other part.

Ashraf Hatem, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Universities, told MENA that the agreements were signed on the sidelines of the first meeting of the Egyptian-British coordinating committee to be held since the framework agreement between the two countries were signed.

He added that the two sides agreed to hold a number of meetings between the Egyptian and British universities, the first of which will be held in the Upper Egyptian City of Aswan on February 22.

The meeting, to be dedicated to scientific research, is to be chaired by British-Egyptian cardiothoracic surgeon Magdi Yacoub, he said.

The second meeting of its kind will be held in April and will be attended by experts in the higher educational quality.
