Dr. Salem Abdulrahman Al Darmaki, Chairman of the Emirates Scout Association, ESA, headed the UAE’s delegation participating in the 41st World Scout Conference, which is currently being held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku.

The delegation includes Major General Abdul Rahman Mohammed Rafi, Deputy Chairman of the ESA, Nasser Obaid Al Shamsi, Deputy Chairman and International Commissioner of the ESA, Abdullah Bilal Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the ESA, and Khalil Rahma, Financial Director at the ESA.

The ESA pavilion in the general exhibition of the conference witnessed, since yesterday, great demand from other participating delegations. The delegation also distributed printed material and commemorative gifts that carry the symbols of the ESA and the conference.

The delegation participated in the opening session of the conference yesterday, which was headed by the delegate of Finland while the delegate of South Africa acted as her deputy. The opening session saw the attendance of Jo?o Goncalves, Chairman of the World Scout Committee, and Ahmad Alhendawi, Secretary-General of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement.

The UAE delegation also took part in a meeting of member countries from the Arab region, and a training session on the electronic voting system of the conference.

The ESA’ participation was recorded in the conference’s records relating to suggested changes to the Scout Handbook. The association had previously sent a working paper to the World Scout Office on its points of view regarding the suggested changes, which were proven in the document.

The conference’s activities began this morning with the presentation of a report about the 23rd World Scout Jamboree, which was held in Japan in 2015. The participants in the conference, whose number totalled around 1,500 representing 180 countries from around the world, were divided into working groups that discussed several topics.

During the second morning session, the ESA delegation also took part in a discussion session about formulating draft resolutions, which include recommendations from the World Youth Forum and on constitutional changes.

Another session was held to present the 19 candidates for membership of the upcoming World Scout Committee, and the voting will take place during the conference to choose 12 of the candidates. The Arab region has four candidates representing Lebanon, Libya, Tunisia and Sudan.
