The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) is stepping up its preparations for its 37th General Assembly and elections for the 2017/2020 term, the committee announced.
The election for the next electoral cycle of the BOC has already been scheduled for Tuesday (June 13), when the financial and administrative reports will be discussed, in addition to the financial report for the 2016//2017 period. It will be followed by the election of the new three-year term board.
Regulations of the elections provides seven seats for the BOC board of directors, in addition to one from one of the sports federations – certified by the International Olympic Committee – and one more for the VIP sports personnel.
There are 12 candidates vying for the allocated seven vacancies, including presidents of six sports federations – Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa (table tennis), Shaikh Mohammed bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (swimming), Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa (cycling), Ali Ishaqi (handball), Khalid Al Khayyat (mixed martial arts) and Abdulla Al Dossary (gymanstics).
The remaining six are Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa (tennis), Shaikh Hamad bin Rashid Al Khalifa (shooting), Noaman Al Hasan (maritime sports), Saleh Faraj (fencing), Bader Nasser (athletics), Adel Al Fayyad (golf).
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar is heading the preparatory committee meetings to put the final touches ahead of this significant event.
Invitations have already been sent out to all 28 national sports federations under its umbrella, in addition to the Athletes Commission members to attend the General Assembly, to be staged at Swiss-Bell Hotel in Seef area.
Some of the other main subjects to be brought up at the General Assembly include the achievements of the committee’s strategic plan between January 2014 and April 2017, as well as the recommendations of the sports federations, which precede the elections for the next three-year term.
