Putin congratulates Czech president on independence anniversary

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram to his Czech counterpart Milos Zeman on occasion of the 100th anniversary of the republic’s independence, the Kremlin website said on Sunday.
"This year you celebrate this landmark anniversary: exactly 100 years ago the Czech people together with the Slovak people defended their right to state sovereignty," the telegram says.
Putin stressed that Russia and the Czech Republic have cultural and spiritual ties and expressed confidence that fostering bilateral dialogue and constructive cooperation in various areas meets common interests of the two states.
"With all my heart I wish you good health and success, and well-being and prosperity to all Czech citizens," the Russian president said.
The day of establishing an independent Czechoslovak Republic is a national holiday of the Czech Republic. On October 28, 1918 the independent Czechoslovak state was declared after the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
