Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry
Cairo - Egypt Today

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday delivered a letter from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, inviting him to visit Egypt as soon as possible.

Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said the message also affirmed Egypt's keenness to boost its bilateral relations with Romania.

The minister also received a Romanian invitation to Sisi to take part in a presidential meeting on youth and ways to protect them from extremism, to be organized by the country on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September.

The meeting between the Romanian president and the Egyptian top diplomat dealt with the current developments in Egypt and challenges faced by the country.

Egypt relies on support provided by its partners and friends around the world, especially Romania, which is a main EU partner to Egypt, Shoukry said.

Egypt is determined to complete the transformation process in a balanced and stable manner, the minister added.

He invited the Romanian business community to take advantage of investment opportunities available in Egypt, expressing keenness to benefit from the experience of democratic transformation in Romania.

For his part, Iohannis expressed the hope he would meet Sisi's invitation to visit Egypt soon.

He hailed distinguished relations binding Egypt and Romania, expressed his country's understanding of Egypt's current challenges, and affirmed full support for the country's economic reform program.

The two sides reviewed regional issues of common concern, including recent developments in Syria, Libya, Palestine, as well as efforts to confront terrorism, resume the Middle East peace process, and combat illegal immigration.
