Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa
Manama - BNA

In a message to the world on the occasion of the United Nations Day, Which falls on Wednesday 24 October 2018,  His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, stated that reaching a shared vision for the development of United Nations mechanisms in the face of current  challenges would enrich the ability of the international organization to lead joint action aimed to realize aspired goals and build a secure and stable world.

His Royal Highness called for embracing a new international vision to handle current events and contain crises in various regions of the world through the delivery of United Nations structures and more balanced mechanisms that meet the aspirations of nations in the field of development. He said that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is keen to strengthen cooperation with different international community members that are interested in contributing to the implementation of peace, security and stability out of belief in the importance of collective responsibility in interests of humanity and future generations.

" The United Nations being the umbrella organization of all countries and peoples of the world has a great responsibility in terms of building more strong and effective international partnerships that preserve global peace and security" he said.

He also pointed out that the successive developments in the world have exacerbated the situation and produced more hotbeds of tension and conflict, which increases the need to uphold the lofty goals and principles of the United Nations, and work together to reinforce its role in establishing dialogue and cooperation as fundamental principles for promoting global stability, the premier confirmed.

HRH stressed that the United Nations has shaped an operative structure for associating positive cooperation in serving several international and humanitarian issues and has succeeded in recognizing the will of peoples and societies to lay the grounds for peace, cooperation and dialogue for a stable world, which must be sustained and reinforced.  He said that the world is now in dire need of relying on the noble principles of the Charter of the United Nations in its efforts to address the issues that are a threat to the present and future of mankind.

His Royal Highness emphasized that the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations constitute an important cultural reference that will provide the world with the security and stability required, provided that all countries abide by and apply them on the ground. He urged the international community to focus more on achieving the goals of sustainable development adopted by the United Nations, and to give the necessary support to the efforts of the countries and communities most in need to catch up with development.

Stressing that the absence of development enhances causes of tension and increases repercussions of ignorance, disease and poverty, which all result in unstable situations in many regions of the world, His Royal Highness said that the world's growing security and stability challenges require the international community to exert more efforts to create mechanisms for global security that will ensure success in facing various challenges, especially the dangers of violence, extremism, terrorism and arms race.

"Today, we are in a rapidly changing world and there are major changes in various fields. No country can be isolated from these changes. It must keep pace with developments in a manner that provides it with a climate that enhances its development efforts that achieve aspirations of their peoples," he affirmed.

His Highness pointed out the need to benefit from the experiences and the tragic turning points experienced by mankind due to wars, conflicts and disputes, which cost a lot of losses, and that the starting point for international action at this stage should be cooperation based on common human values. He expressed his pride and support for the cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations and its specialized agencies, which had a clear impact in supporting many development programs implemented by the Kingdom through the use of the expertise and technical support provided by the Organization. He stressed that cooperation with all international and regional organizations, especially the United Nations, is a key component of the foreign policy approach adopted by the Kingdom of Bahrain, due to its belief in the importance of international partnership and unity of human destiny.

HRH concluded his comments by giving tribute to the efforts made by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to achieve the goals of the international organization in all matters related to enhancing international cooperation and spreading values of justice, tolerance and peace world-wide.
