Tokyo stocks rose sharply Thursday with the Nikkei index finishing back over the 14,000 mark as investors took positive cues from unexpectedly strong Chinese economic data and the US Federal Reserve’s decision to maintain its quantitative easing.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average closed up 337.45 points, or 2.47%, from Wednesday at 14,005.77.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 31.69 points, or 2.80%, at 1,163.39.
All 33 sectors gained led by utilities, banking and oil issues, according to (Kyodo) news agency.
