The textile industry in Egypt contributes to three percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), said head of the Egyptian Chamber of Textile Industries Mohamed el Morshedi.
The textile industry accommodates about one third of the workforce in Egypt, Morshedi told MENA Sunday.
He put the value of textile exports at about 2.6 billion dollars per year, making up 15 percent of the total value of Egyptian non-petroleum exports.
The Chamber is working to increase exports to Africa, which Morshedi sees as a promising market.
