Yemen denies German envoy was target of kidnap bid

Yemen on Sunday denied reports that Germany's ambassador to Sanaa had escaped a bid to kidnap her, saying instead that her bodyguard had been the target and he was shot dead. Ambassador Carola Mueller-Holtkemper "is currently outside the country", a foreign ministry spokesman told AFP. "Apparently there was an attempt to kidnap her bodyguard and he was shot dead when he resisted."
