Tsunami alert cancelled in Japan after quake

A tsunami alert raised after a powerful undersea quake off the coast of Japan was cancelled around two hours later. A spokesman for the Japan Meteorological Agency told a hastily-convened press conference that no new waves were expected after the initial round, which saw waves up to 55 centimetres (22 inches) roll ashore.
