Republicans offer short term US debt cap raise

Republican leaders are to offer President Barack Obama a temporary deal to raise the US government's debt ceiling and head off the immediate risk of default, lawmakers said Thursday. "It will be short term," Congressman Robert Pittenger told reporters after a meeting of Republican representatives on Capitol Hill. Party leaders were due to meet Obama later in the day.
