Presidential elections in Tajikistan easily won by incumbent President Emomali Rakhmon lacked pluralism and fell short of international standards for democratic polls, OSCE observers said. “Restrictive candidacy requirements... present significant obstacles that are at odds with OSCE commitments and other international standards for democratic elections,” the observers said, commenting that the elections were marked by “a lack of genuine choice and meaningful pluralism."
