New central bank governor: India's economy fundamentally sound

India's new central bank governor said Wednesday the country's economy was sound and he would seek to cut inflation, as the country battles to stabilise the plummeting rupee. Raghuram Rajan said India's economy was "fundamentally sound" and that achieving a "low and stable" inflation level was crucial, in his first public comments since taking over as governor on Wednesday.
