Maldives vote postponed after police intervene

Presidential elections in the Maldives due to take place Saturday were postponed at the last minute after police said the vote in the Indian Ocean nation was illegal. "We continued with preparations for voting, but the Maldives Police Service have said no documents connected to the election can leave the commission’s offices," the independent Elections Commission said in a statement. "A new date for elections will be informed later."
