India October industrial output shrinks by surprise 1.8%: data

India's industrial output shrank by a surprise 1.8 percent in October from a year earlier, its first contraction in four months, reflecting the still fragile state of Asia's third-largest economy, data showed Thursday. The fall was bigger than market expectations of around 1.1 percent and was a far cry from the double-digit rises India enjoyed when the nation's economy was booming.
