France: Does not pay ransoms after hostages freed

The French presidency insisted on Wednesday that the country does not pay ransoms, amid reports some 20 million euros ($28 million) were paid for the release of four Frenchmen kidnapped in Niger. "France does not pay ransoms. This is repeated every time.... There is no need to return to the subject," a source in the presidency told AFP.
