Damascus - SANA
A group art exhibition, titled "Belonging," was opened on Wednesday at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus University, showcasing over 200 pieces of art by students from the sculpture, photography, carving, printing, interior design and visual communication departments. The exhibition, which is open until May 20th, contains works mostly inspired by Syria's cultural heritage, depicting historic periods and civilizations and prominent historical figures, including freedom fighters Yousef al-Azmeh, Saleh al-Ali, and Sultan Basha al-Atrash, in addition to late President Shukri al-Quwatli, writers Hanna Mina and Colette Khouri, poet Mohammad al-Maghout, and scholar Mohammad Saeed Ramadan al-Bouti. The students' works also showcased cultural and architectural landmarks from Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Hama and Lattakia. Exhibition coordinator Hiba Salim said that this activity expresses desire for consecrating the concept of belonging to the country in light of the current events, with young artists expressing their affection towards their homeland.
