Maraya Art Centre
Dubai - WAM

Maraya Art Centre's upcoming exhibition, ‘A Burgeoning Collection', will showcase a selection of the works created to date for the centre, including new acquisitions. Launching on Wednesday, 16th September, the exhibition will be made up of a range of media, from photography to sculpture, and will include works commissioned for Maraya Art Centre and 1971 - Design Space.

Along with the commissioned artworks on display, ‘A Burgeoning Collection' will also feature works from the Maraya artist in residence, Zeinab Al Hashemi, as well as pieces from the Maraya video archive. The purpose of the exhibition is to celebrate the rich and diverse work produced by local artists, many of whom Maraya has supported throughout the early stages of their careers.

Speaking on the exhibition and Maraya's continued support of developing artists, Giuseppe Moscatello, Maraya Art Centre Director, said, "At Maraya Art Centre, we are dedicated to showcasing the very best work that our region has to offer and a part of that is supporting artists in the early stages of their careers. Over the years, we have amassed a remarkable collection of work through our support of those developing artists, some of which we are thrilled to showcase as part of ‘A Burgeoning Collection'. Being able to appreciate that work as an exhibition has once again highlighted the impact Maraya has had in contributing to the art scene and has further fuelled our desire to continue with that support."

‘A Burgeoning Collection' will include works from some thirty artists and designers, all of whom are Emirati, UAE-based or from the wider Gulf area. Going forward, Maraya plans to loan out works from its collections to other galleries and institutions with the aim of further developing the arts and culture scene within the region.

‘A Burgeoning Collection' will take place on Sunday 13th September, 2015 at Maraya Art Centre, Third Floor (The Gallery) Sharjah. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
