The water level in the Amur river may rise from August 20 to 25 to a record high of seven meters, the regional department of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations reports on Friday. At the present moment, the level is 604 centimeters, 15 centimeters higher than on Thursday, it says. Water levels are expected to be maximally high in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Nikolayevsk-on-Amur and in six districts of the Khabarovsk region. The flood wave from the Amur and Tunguska rivers will sweep through the Kbabarovsk region between August 20 to September 19. Specialists forecast that houses and other facilities may be flooded in almost 60 settlements, and roads between them may be destroyed. The forces and means of the emergencies ministry’s regional department are ready to promptly react to possible emergency situations. The population is being warned. An emergency situation regime has been imposed in Khabarovsk, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, as well as in the Amur, Komsomolsk, Nanai and Khabarovsk municipal districts.
