Flood situation in Far East to stabilize by end of August

The flood situation in the Far East will stabilize in full by the end of August, Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov told Itar-Tass on Friday. “The situation will stabilize in the Amur region on August 15-16, in the Jewish Autonomous Region on August 16-18, in Khabarovsk Territory till August 25 and in Primorsky Territory till August 30 if there are no cyclones and thunderheads,” Puchkov said. Earlier, head of the national centre of management in emergency situations of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations Vladimir Stepanov said that the flood situation in the Volga, Ural and Far Eastern regions is under control. “The national centre of management in emergency situations is controlling the situation, which is related with the flood over heavy rains in several constituent territories in the Far Eastern, Ural and Volga Federal Districts,” he noted. The most complicated flood situation remains in the Amur region. “But it should be noted that the water level in the upper pool went up eight centimeters for the past day that is two times lower than a day before. The water went out from 50 houses,” Stepanov said. The numerical strength of the emergency task force was increased and already exceeded 30,000 people in the Far East as part of flood preventive measures. More than 10,000 people are also concentrated in the Amur region alone.
