Manama - BNA
Riffa and and Arsenal 'Red' last night stormed into the final of the Women's Five-A-Side Futsal Championship, part of the First Bahrain Women's Games. In two semi-final matches at Khalifa Sports City Gym in Isa Town, Arsenal 'Red' eased to a 13-1 win over Happy Feet, setting up their title clash with Riffa who edged Bahrain's under-16 team 6-0. The final is set for tonight at 6pm, to be followed by the prize-distribution ceremony and the closing ceremony of the Women's Games. Bahrain's under-16 girls fought bravely in yesterday's first game, but faced a more-experienced side, who picked up a well-deserved victory. Featuring several members of Bahrain's senior women's team, Riffa took firm control of the game and they hit six times, including three in each half. Riffa goals included a hat-trick by Yasmine Fayez, while Reem Al Hasmi (2) and Shaikha Al Anood bint Hamad Al Khalifa were also on target. Arsenal 'Red' followed suit, beating Happy Feet by a huge margin, thanks to Reema Al Qassab and Sam Turner who fired four goals each. Lamees Al Saqqa and Ala'a Al Alawi also scored for the victors, while Happy Feet consolation came from Thuraya Al Waary. Meanwhile, the curtains came down on the Women's Athletics Championship late on Monday with Budaiya School being overall champions for the intermediate stage, while Um Kulthoom School were crowned primary stage overall winners. The finals of 12 events took place as Fatma Mohammed clinched the 50m gold medal for the intermediate stage. Clocking 12.01 seconds, Fatma was followed by Dana Osama (12.05) and Maryam Salah (12.94), who came second and third, respectively. Doha Hazem (10.31) topped the 60m contest, ahead of runner up Ghazwa Bader (10.43) and third-placer Norhan Sha'aban (10.79). In the 300m final, Lamees Abdulla (1:02:00) raced to victory, whereas Haya Mubarak (27:98) dominated the primary stage 150m contest. A 600m final also took place as Noaf Faisal (2:44.00) notched victory. The Arabian Gulf School (4:21.60) won the 300mx4 intermediate stage relay, and Hamad Town (56.42) won the 80mx4 primary stage final. Areej Aziz (34.29m) and Safa Jamal (17.87) shared the spoils in the javelin throw for the intermediate and primary stages, respectively. Zahra Faisal (7.25m) took the shot put gold, Noor Abdulla (5.66) won the primary stage shot put, while the high jump event was won by Lamees Abdulla (1.20m).
