London - Arabstoday
Lyon coach Remi Garde was not not getting carried away after his team moved to the top of the Ligue 1 table with a 3-0 win over Reims on Sunday. Anthony Weber's own goal on the stroke of half-time set Les Gones on their way at the Stade de Gerland, and Bafetimbi Gomis doubled the hosts' advantage in the 73rd minute before Lisandro Lopez sealed matters at the death. The victory lifted Lyon two points above Paris Saint-Germain, who lost 2-1 at home to Rennes on Saturday night, and Marseille, who had the chance to regain top spot but went down 1-0 at Bordeaux last night, with Les Girondins climbing to second as a result. "It is good that this puts us in first place, but it's anecdotal," Garde said. "We must remember how we applied ourselves against a well-organised team who played and caused us problems, with a willingness to move forward while being serious. "We will meet with teams ranked very far from us. We have a level of trust, but it is not enough. However, I am satisfied with what my team has produced so far." Gomis wary, Malbranque pleased Gomis agreed there was nothing to get too excited about just yet but was happy with his team's position. "It's great to be on top of the table after the uncertainties at the beginning of the season," he said on OLTV. "But there's a long way still to go. We've integrated some young players and new faces this season and no one should be counting us out of the title race. "It's a great league here in France. We've got some pretty important matches coming up, and how well we recover will be an important factor." Midfielder Steed Malbranque, who set up the second and third goals, added: "We're not focusing on the fact of being in top spot right now. "The important thing is to think about the three points we just won. We knew it would be tough against Reims. We were lucky enough to break the deadlock just before half-time. I'm very happy with the assists I provided." From : Fifa
