Sochi - Arab Today
Australian Winter Olympics golden girl Torah Bright admitted Sunday she was concerned that the "best builders" had not been working on Sochi's challenging snowboard courses. Bright, 27, won gold in the halfpipe at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and is chasing a treble of slopestyle, halfpipe and snowboard cross. She said she does have some concerns that "the best halfpipe and slopestyle builders in the world" had not been building the event courses at Sochi. However, she believes that the tougher the courses are, the more challenging they will be. "As long as the (slopestyle) jumps are built fine, I mean we're all very experienced in our personal disciplines, we will able to manage it," she said. "It really shouldn’t be a problem. These are big jumps." Bright is the only snowboarder in Sochi competing in three events but she insists that she will not be over-stretched. "I am going to eat an extra bowl of Weetabix in the morning to give me the stamina I need to get through these three events," she joked before adding that getting to grips with snowboard cross like a "roller derby on snow". "I'm really excited actually. Many people told me that it wasn't possible, but here I am competing in three Olympic disciplines." Meanwhile, American mogul skier Hannah Kearney also admitted that her course at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park needed a little care and attention. "It needs some love, it needs some skiing, it needs some traffic, but we have several days before we're competing on it," she said. "You just have to treat it like another competition. Don't start panicking, don't start worrying, everything will shape up like it should." "Skiing the middle section is actually really fun. There are some rhythm changes and I think it will separate the good skiers from the bad skiers. It gets fast and then it gets really tight and then it rolls. It's cool." Source: AFP
