Dubai - Arab Today

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, have visited the historic landmarks of Dubai that reflect the authenticity of the UAE community and its association with the Gulf and Arab culture.

The visit also reflects the leadership's keenness to preserve the state's historic cultural heritage.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid welcomed the Saudi king to Dubai, stressing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the UAE share common history, geography and destiny as they constitute the solid foundation of strong relations between the two countries and two brotherly people.

He referred to the joint efforts towards achieving a better future for the entire region, adding that these relations would be extended to the next generation to enjoy the glory and pride whose foundations were laid by forefathers. He paid tribute to the forefathers whose rich role in the Gulf culture would always remain a source of inspiration, pride and dignity.

The motorcade of the Saudi King crossed the Sheikh Zayed Road on its way to the heritage areas in Dubai, where he was also briefed about the modern features of Dubai, a mark of the great development achieved by the emirate over the past decades in terms of advanced infrastructure, and global competitiveness ranking.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed received King Salman upon his arrival at the Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House, where he started the tour. The house was built in 1896 in Shindagha area as the residence of Al Maktoum family until 1958. The Saudi King also stunned the audience with his more information about the history of the region, lineages and civilisation.

King Salman examined the footage documenting the ancient life and other house collections, including rare collections of the emirate's historic and official documents, in addition to the original jewellery, coins, stamps and other important historical exhibits.

The Saudi King, along with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, also visited Saruq Al-Hadid Archaeology Museum, where he was briefed on its unique collections, chronicling the important historical features of Dubai and the UAE.

The tour also included a number of historic quarters in Shindagha area, where King Salman was briefed about the old Emirati architecture that marks the identity of the heritage area, and the unique homes overlooking the Dubai Creek.
