Jordanian researcher Mohammed Younis Al-Abadi, Director General of the National Library Department, stressed Jordan's efforts in protecting copyright and combating piracy on computer programs have contributed to reducing the piracy rate in 2015 from 87% to 56%.

Abadi, said in a press statement, on World Intellectual Property Day in 26 April, that over the past 16 years, the Office of Copyright Protection has referred 5976 cases to the concerned courts from various regions of the Kingdom, including confiscation of about one million of various works.

He added that most of the seized material from CD, DVD, books, electronic games and computer programs, as well as circumventing effective technological measures' issues by deciphering devices or television signals or dealing with decoding devices.
 
Al-Abadi pointed out that the National Library recognizes the importance of creativity and related industries for Jordan and the Jordanian citizen. Therefore, it has many plans, programs and activities aimed at supporting national production, protecting and preserving it, and providing a safe environment for attracting investment through its work to protect copyright and related rights in the Kingdom.

The Jordanian researcher explained that Jordan's goal is to create an environment conducive to creativity free of infringements on the intellectual rights of others, stressing the need to comply fully with the provisions of the law on the protection of copyright in order to enhance Jordan's international status in the field of enactment and enforcement of special laws.
