Parliamentarian and thinker Abu Zeid Al Idrissi, member of Moroccan Justice and Development Party, said that the Islamic books are more popular than other books. It came during his visit to the Moroccan and Algerian corner in the International Book Fair held in Casablanca, as all participant publishers said that Islamic books' sales are incomparable with other types of books, noting that it is a cultural aspect which can not be ignored.
Regarding the reading problem, Al Idrissi said in an exclusive interview with Morocco Today, that the country suffers from a terrible decline of reading amounting to about six minutes per year, compared to two hours per year five years ago. He added that the reading rate in USA reached 300 hours per year, 200 hours in Europe and 180 hours in Japan, citing smart phones and social networks as reasons for the decline of reading.
Abu Zeid participated in the book fair with his new release "Letters and Meanings," which discuss his university thesis. The Idrissi Foundation has published twenty books, of which 10 books were written by Al Idrissi.
He revealed that his books discuss Islamic thought, modernity and heritage
Al Idrissi praised this year's book fair, adding that it was well-organized making visitors feel comfortable in the exhibitions.
