
Afghan police reported on Friday that sounds of explosions and gunfire were heard at the scene of the attack on a mosque in the capital, Kabul, ABC news reported.
Police official Mohammed Jamil, said the gunmen are still inside the mosque, which was crowded with worshipers in Muslim Friday prayers.
Jamil added that Afghan security forces have surrounded the mosque but haven't advanced into it to avoid further casualties.
Reports said gunmen stormed a mosque in the Afghan capital while worshipers were performing Friday prayers, setting off an explosion that killed a security guard outside and pushing into the shrine, according to officials and a cleric who was leading the service.
