The death toll in a head-on collision between two buses in Bangladesh's northwestern Natore district has risen to 33, with dozens of others being hospitalized, local police said Tuesday.
The district's police chief Bashudev Bonik told Xinhua that the casualties climbed after 12 bus passengers died from their injuries overnight Monday. "Twenty-one passengers were killed on the spot," he added.
He said several other people still remained in critical condition. The accident occurred on Monday afternoon when one of the buses crossed the traffic barrier and crashed into the incoming onein a road, some 210 km west of the capital Dhaka.
Photos from the scene showed that one of the buses veered off the road while the other overturned. The crash left the front ends of both the buses heavily damaged.
The video footage showed many bodies were scattered around the crash site.
