Ghassan Salamé
Tripoli - Egypt Today

The UK government is cooperating with Special Envoy and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNMIL) Ghassan Salamé to mobilize support for the Libyan issue in the international forums, British Ambassador to Libya Peter Millett said.

He made the remarks during a meeting with the head and members of the municipal council of Misrata, representatives of the Political Gathering of the Deputies of Misrata (PGDM) and representatives of the Misrata shura council.

In a related context, the Misrata municipal council said on its Facebook page that the British diplomat said he was happy to visit Misrata to meet with officials and stressed that his country welcomes and encourages the recent moves to achieve the national reconciliation, especially with the eastern region.

The UK stands on the same distance from all Libyan factions and backs all efforts to combat terrorism, Millett noted.

Britain also props up efforts of the various Libyan parties to reach a national mechanism for ending the current political stalemate and agree on a unified vision to get out of the current crisis, based on the Libyan political agreement, and under the auspices of the UN, Millett noted.
