An Alexandria prosecution team headed for Alexandria's Borg el Arab airport to investigate the circumstances behind the hijacking of the Egyptian plane, a judicial source said.
The team will quiz airport officials, review passengers' lists and stand on security measures at the airport, the source said.
Borg el Arab Airport director Hosni Hassan said there is no confirmed report about the presence of an explosive belt on board of the hijacked plane.
The hijacker was arrested and all passengers were freed.
Earlier Tuesday, the EgyptAir Airbus A320, with 50 passengers on board along with seven cabin crew members and one security officer, was hijacked and forced to land in Cyprus.
Flight MS181 passenger plane was originally travelling from Alexandra's Borg El Arab Airport to Cairo.
The Cypriot Larnaca airport was closed and scheduled flights diverted elsewhere over the Egyptian plane hijacking.
