The Sudanese government on Tuesday reiterated commitment to cessation of hostilities and cease-fire at South Kordofan and Blue Nile state besides its agreement on delivery of humanitarian assistance to the two areas.
"We reiterate once again Sudan's full commitment and readiness to sign cessation of hostilities and comprehensive cease-fire together with delivery of humanitarian assistance according to the proposal agreed on with the U.S. administration," Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid, Sudanese Presidential Assistant, told reporters.
"We are waiting for the rebel forces to resort to the voice of reason and work to avoid assaults and killing against the citizens," he noted.
Hamid further lashed out at the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector.
"The SPLM/northern sector has repeatedly attacked the innocent civilians at the two areas. The government will not allow such brutal attacks against the citizens," said Hamid.
Last Saturday, Khartoum accused the (SPLM)/northern sector of committing a massacre at an area in South Kordofan which resulted in killing of seven herdsmen.
It also urged the international community to regard the SPLM/northern sector as a terrorist movement.
Last Friday, seven cattle herdsmen were killed and another injured near Al-Hujairat area, some 30 km west of Kadugli, capital of South Kordofan State.
The SPLM/northern sector is fighting Khartoum government at South Kordofan and Blue Nile areas.
