Foreign Minister Mohamed Mouldi Kefi, who is heading the Tunisian delegation to the works of the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly, took part on Tuesday, in New York, in the informal consultation meeting of the International Organisation of the Francophony, the high-level meeting on Libya and the one devoted to the "Follow-up of the Deauville Partnership" and summoned by France, in its quality of presently presiding the G8. In the consultation meeting of the International Organisation of the Francophony on the theme "Key Political transitions in French-Speaking Sphere," the Minister spoke of the democratisation process in Tunisia and the different stages of political transition that the interim government plans to cover in serenity, transparency and stability. In the high-level meeting devoted to Libya, and which was marked by the presence of some thirty heads of state or government, including notably Messrs. Barack Obama, Nicolas Sarkozy and Recep Teyyip Erdogan, the Minister stressed the special nature of the Tunisian-Libyan relations and their historical, cultural and social roots. He emphasised the need to support and accompany the stabilisation and reconstruction efforts exerted by the brotherly Libyans and release of their assets abroad so as to finance operation of humanitarian assistance and rebuilding process. Besides, the Minister called on the international community to support new Libya's applying for full membership in the United Nations. In this connection, the Minister had met Mr. Mustapha Abdeljelil, Chairman of the Libyan National Transition Council and voiced anew the total support of Tunisia, government and people, and entire readiness to co-operate with the Libyan authorities in all fields and at all levels. During his participation in the high-level meeting on the Deauville Partnership Summit, Mr. Kefi reminded of the needs and priorities of Tunisia at this transitional stage. Besides, the Minister conferred with his counterparts from Switzerland and Australia, with former President of Finland, as well as with senior officials of Amnesty International.
