China ''opposes'' Israeli plans for another 1,100 homes in East Jerusalem

China said Wednesday it "deeply regrets" Israeli plans for another 1,100 homes in an east Jerusalem settlement and urged the country to act "prudently". according to Chinese (Xinhua) news agency. Europe and the United States have condemned the move for new housing units in the Gilo neighbourhood, which Palestinian leaders said effectively rebuffed a recent proposal for fresh peace talks. "China deeply regrets and opposes Israel''s approval of plans for expansion of Jewish settlements in east Jerusalem," foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters at a briefing. "China urges Israel to act prudently."
