Three people were arrested Tuesday morning at the New Jersey side of the Holland Tunnel after authorities found cache of weapons in their van during a regular police stop, according to local media.
Police said that the cache of weapons included multiple loaded handguns, long-range rifles, camouflage helmets and ballistic vests.
The three individuals, two men in their 50s and a woman in her 20s were stopped en route to New York City around 7:40 a.m., authorities said. The van was reportedly pulled over at the toll plaza because of a cracked windshield.
Initial investigation showed that the three suspects are so-called "gun enthusiasts" and have no nexus to terror. Police said all three of the suspects were from Pennsylvania, where some of the weapons found may be legal to possess.
Police said although there was no known threat, the Joint Terrorism Task Force would continue investigation out of caution.
