Jordan's Lower House on Sunday urged Britain to apologize to the Palestinians for the Balfour Declaration on the occasion of the 101th year of the declaration.

The lower house said that the declaration opened the door for Jews from all over the world to immigrate to Palestine and imposed heavy taxes on the Palestinian farmers.

On Nov. 2, 1917, British then Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour wrote a letter to British Jewish citizen Baron Lionel Walter Rothschild, expressing the government's support for a Jewish homeland in Palestine.

The letter came to be known as the Balfour Declaration.

"The Palestinians' choice at this stage is to continue their struggle to obtain their legitimate rights as Britain gives what it does not own to those who do not deserve it," the lower house said in a statement.

The statement stressed that Israel was never committed to peace-making efforts as it never abided by any of the deals or treaties to achieve peace, which will lead to the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
