The Syrian expatriate singer Faia Younan has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the first artist in the Middle East to finance her song “I Love Your Hands” through crowdfunding.

With this achievement, Younan will be the first female singer from the Arab world to enter this global encyclopedia.

In a statement to SANA, Younan said the Guinness certificate has a morally uplifting impact as it is a result of integrated team efforts for the project of financing the song “I Love Your Hands” which carries artistic and cultural values.

She pointed out that the song, which was launched three years ago, is a team work that brought together about 119 persons who believed in the project and gave it financial support along with the members of the executive team of the song.

The singer said that the success of the funding campaign in 2015 is due to the emotional dimension it carried as it conveyed the Syrian voices of resistance to destruction and the war of terrorism, specifically the cultural war against Syria, which aims at destroying its identity and civilization.

She noted to the difficulties that faced the campaign, including explaining the idea of the project to people who trusted the team and believed in it.

The idea of crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet.

The artist Faia is a Syrian expatriate who is originally from Aleppo and has lived since her childhood in Sweden. In August 2015, the singer held its first concert in Syria at Dar Al Assad for Culture and Arts. The singer has collected more than 35 million views on its YouTube channel for its songs and concerts which were held in Syria and most of the Arab countries.
