Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is ending his visit to Paris, where he is staying for events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and returning to Israel due to the situation in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli prime minister’s office reported on Sunday.

"Due to security incidents in the south, the Prime Minister has decided to cut short the trip to Paris and will return to Israel tonight," the office said in a statement.

On Sunday, the Israeli army reported that a shootout with Palestinian radicals had started during an operation carried out by the military in the Gaza Strip. The military later specified that none of the servicemen who took part in the operation was captured. Then the army reported the interception of two missiles launched out of Gaza by the Iron Dome air defense system. Air-raid warning systems has gone off at least 10 times since Sunday evening in Israel’s areas bordering with the Palestinian enclave.

Palestine’s Maan News Agency reported, citing the enclave’s health ministry, that six Palestinians were killed and seven were injured in an operation carried out by Israeli special forces in the Gaza Strip. According to the news agency, there are two commanders of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades - the military wing of the Hamas movement, which controls Gaza - among those killed.
