Turkey is "patiently waiting" for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to reveal details on the killing of Jamal Khashoggi in his country's consulate in Istanbul, the Turkish president was quoted by local media as saying.

"The crown prince says, 'I will clarify the incident, I will also do what is necessary.' We are waiting patiently," President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters on board his plane as he returned from an official visit to Paris, the Hurriyet daily and other Turkish media reported on Tuesday.

Khashoggi, a journalist and critic of the Saudi leadership, was killed on October 2 after entering Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul to get the paperwork needed to marry his Turkish fiancee.

More than 40 days after his killing, Khashoggi's remains have not been located. There is also no confirmation on who ordered the killing.

Erdogan said the culprits are "definitely" among the 18 suspects under arrest in connection with the incident in Saudi Arabia, adding: "It must also be revealed who gave them the order."

Turkish authorities have been selectively leaking information to local media, including alleged recordings of the killing. On October 23, Erdogan revealed details of a premeditated murder by a 15-member Saudi hit team.

The recordings, which Ankara has shared with several countries, are "a disaster" and "shocked" a Saudi intelligence official who heard them, Erdogan said.

The president said Turkey played the recordings to "all those who wanted them from us," including Saudi Arabia, the United States, France, Canada, Germany and Britain.
