Cairo - Arab Today

The UAE participated in the emergency Arab League meeting in Cairo at the level of permanent representatives, convened at the request of Libya and with the support of Egypt and the UAE, to discuss the latest developments in Libya.
Dr. Nabil Elaraby, Secretary-General of the Arab League, was present. Mohammed bin Nakhira Al Dhaheri, the UAE's Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, headed the UAE delegation.
Al Dhaheri affirmed that the UAE is very concerned about the deterioration of security conditions in Libya and repercussions on the neighbouring countries due to terrorist activities and the armed groups spreading to an unprecedented extent.
In his speech, Al Dhaheri said, "The UAE strongly condemns the latest attack on oil areas and the terrorist bombings which targeted some places in Libya and the Dawn of Libya militia group's kidnapping of 13 Christian Egyptians in Sirte as well as the killing of an Egyptian doctor by those groups which target the stability and security of the region by spreading violence and terrorism. This was a matter that requires rallying of efforts to take swift and decisive action to eradicate these terrorists and check their criminal practices which are being condemned by all international communities." The UAE envoy also held the armed groups, which include Ansar al-Sharia, the Dawn of Islam, and Daesh (ISIL) who stand to benefit from the current conflict in Libya, legally responsible for the criminal terrorist acts.
He also pointed out to the terrorist car bomb attack in which targeted the UAE Embassy in Libya last November, showing that such groups now exercise control on Tripoli.
He underscored the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution No. 2174 of 2014, which underlined the sovereignty, independence and integrity and national unity of Libya, stressing the importance of combating terrorism through all means and apply all necessary international sanctions and hold accountable those responsible for the violations committed against Libyans.
Al Dhaheri also reiterated the UAE's full support to all the legitimate constitutional institutions in Libya.
