American Airlines, the world’s largest airline is planning to reduce the economic class space by two inches in an attempt to install more seats.  The space of the seats on Boeing Max 737-800 is expected to be reduced from 31 inches to 29 inches, according to CNN.

The company announced that, the passenger of the shorted seats will pay regular travel charges, and these seats will not be included in the new basic airfares. The company hasn’t decided on the terms that will apply on the passengers of these seats.

A spokesman for the American Airlines said that, the seats used on Max planes are designed to maximize the required personal space and allowing more comfort. The new economic seats will like the ones on the low cost American carriers such as, Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines. CNN network mentioned that United Company is considering making a similar change.

The new Max planes which mostly operate on North American routes will provide more than 170 seats compared to the 160 seats used currently, and it will keep bigger economic seats, and the toilets will be smaller.

Reducing the space is one of the changes that the American Airlines reveled this year. Last January, the company decided to get rid of the back seat screens on its Max airplanes, because most of the passengers travel with their mobile phones and lab tops, so instead of investing in the screens, the company will work on increasing the internet speed, so that the passengers will be able to surf the internet and watch movies.
