A sit-in to show solidarity with the artists
Casablanca - Arab Today

Following the ban of street musicians from performing in Casablanca’s streets, a sit-in will be held on March 18 in Casablanca to show solidarity with the artists.

The sit-in, first announced on Facebook, was strongly welcomed on social media, with over 1000 person confirming their attedance at the sit-in and over 4000 saying that they are interested.

Under the ttitle “Here, We Play Music. Here, We Dance. The Authority that Disapproves of Us, Should Stay Away,”  the sit-in’s organizers, Nabil Enmiry and Youssef Zaoui, explained in the Facebook event page, called “Here, We Play Music. Here, We Dance. The Authority that Disapproves of Us, Should Stay Away,” that they have decided to organize the sit in to support the artists, “whose offense is to play music in a space known for aggression and harassment.”

“The artists who delight us whenever we pass by Place Des Nation, in Casablanca, those who have been deemed as offenders by the authorities, are in need of our support and assistance,” stated the sit-in initiators.

Enmiry and Zaoui called for the sit-in’s attendees to bring their guitars to perform or to simply come and dance at Place Des Nations at 7 pm on March 18.

They concluded that the sit-in also aims to convey to Casablanca’s authorities that creativity and art in public spaces are not crimes.
