President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held on Sunday a meeting with Antiquities Minister Khaled el Anany.

During the meeting, Sisi called for stepping up efforts to renovate all Egyptian archaeological sites and museums, especially the Islamic art museum which was targeted in a terrorist attack in January 2014, Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef said.

Anany briefed Sisi on the current renovation work at the Mallawi museum in Minya and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo.

He added that the renovation of archaeological sites is necessary to improve the quality of services provided for tourists.

Anany noted that his ministry organized several tourism campaigns abroad in the past period to promote tourism in Egypt.

He also spoke of the role played by his ministry to retrieve Egyptian monuments, which were illegally smuggled from Egypt in the past period.
