Culture Minister Helmy el Namnam
Cairo - Mena

Culture Minister Helmy el Namnam has hailed the Egyptian-Indian historical ties during a ceremony marking the issuance of the 500th edition of Sawtul Hind Magazine in Egypt.
The ceremony - organized by the Indian embassy in Cairo - was held at the Egyptian Center for International Cultural Cooperation, the Egyptian Culture Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Indian Ambassador in Cairo Sanjay Bhattacharyya attended the event alongside a number of diplomats.
During the ceremony, Namnam noted that the magazine's first edition was issued 55 years ago when the Egyptian-Indian ties were flourishing under the leaderships of Egypt's Gamal Abdel Nasser and India's Nehru.
He also cited the two countries' partnership in establishing the Non-Aligned Movement.
For his side, the Indian ambassador said that the issuance of the 500th edition of the magazine reflects the deeply-rooted ties between the two countries.
Bhattacharyya added that this year marks the 70th anniversary of India’s independence day.
During the ceremony, the embassy presented to Namnam the first edition of the magazine as a gift.
The ceremony included a photo exhibition of the magazine's covers since its launch 55 years ago.
