China's mobile phone operators had 81.08 million new subscribers in the first eight months of this year, bringing their total number of users to a record high of 940.09 million, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said Monday. More than half of the new subscribers were 3G users, and the total number of 3G users in the country reached 94.12 million, according to a statement posted on the ministry's website. The country's telephone users totaled 1.23 billion by the end of August, due to the steady rise in the number of mobile phone users, the statement said. During the first eight months, revenues of China's telecommunication sector rose 10.1 percent year-on-year to reach 647.73 billion yuan (101.21 billion U.S. dollars). About 71.89 percent of the industry's revenues came from the mobile sector, compared with 69.38 percent for the same period last year, the statement said.
