New York - Arabstoday
The University of Arizona is backing off its earlier proposal to increase tuition by 2.7 percent for in-state freshmen who start school this fall. Instead, new students who are Arizona residents will have no tuition increase. Under the UA's proposal, they'll pay the same $10,035 a year other in-state undergrads pay for tuition and mandatory fees. The UA announced the change Thursday. Its latest tuition plan still needs final approval from the Arizona Board of Regents when it meets next month. The UA's proposed tuition package also includes undergraduate nonresident tuition of $26,231 a year (up 2.9 percent); in-state graduate tuition of $11,122 (a 2.7 percent increase) and nonresident graduate tuition of $26,533 (a 2.9 percent increase). The regents will hold a public, interactive hearing on tuition to get feedback. The hearing is set for Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Gallagher Theater in the Student Union Memorial Center.
