REPRESENTATIVES of 23 Canadian colleges and universities are currently in the island for the Jamaica leg of the 2013 Caribbean Regional Education Tour (CRET), an education fair initiative being staged by the High Commission of Canada. The four-day event, which opens today at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston, is part of the Imagine: Studying in Canada! Programme of the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) which offers students and teachers the chance to learn about international education The ‘by-invitation-only’ education fair will move to Hilton Rose Hall Resort and Spa in Montego Bay, St James on Friday. High school students and Guidance Counsellors will get the opportunity to visit with all the colleges and universities represented at the fair. Over 75 local high schools and community colleges have been invited to participate in this year’s activities. According to the Canadian High Commission, interested members of the public must register at kingston.education@international.gc.ca by providing their name and contact details. “The High Commission of Canada will only accept registration requests sent to the aforementioned e-mail address,” the commission said in a statement yesterday. The Jamaican leg of the Education Fair is part of the 2013 CRET sponsored by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development and hosted by Canadian Missions throughout the Caribbean. Between October and November, the study tour visits six Caribbean islands — Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Antigua, Barbados, St Lucia and The Bahamas. Source: Education News
