Egypt marks Earth Hour today

A popular campaign to observe the Earth Hour will be launched in Egypt later Saturday.
The campaign is meant to unify efforts to face climate change in line with a global tradition to turn off lights at famous buildings and sites.
Egypt will observe the Earth Hour from 8.30 to 9.30 p.m.
Lights will be turned off at a number of tourist attractions, atop of which the Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Citadel of Qaitbay and Luxor temples.
A number of hotels will also observe the Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature.
The event is held annually to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. toward the end of March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.
It was started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide.
